Contemporary Pergolas With Opening Roofs - Made In Britain

Our pergolas with opening roofs, often referred to as louvered roofs or Outdoor Living Pods, feature a series of extruded aluminium louvers that form the roof, each interlocking (overlapping) with each other to provide a watertight covering. The louvers are connected via hi-tensile stainless steel pins in each end, into punched slots within the front and rear cross beam of the pergola. Additionally, a second pin to the rear of each louver connects to an aluminium drive arm. This drive arm is subsequently connected to a linear actuator motor, the type used to open large skylights and rooflights, with the motor positioned either on the inside or top of the cross beam.

The pergola motor is connected to a receiver built within the structure framework that enables it to be activated by radio transmitter – a handheld remote control. When a command is sent from the remote control to open the motor, the motor drive shaft extends at an angle, pushing the louver drive arm it is connected to, subsequently causing the roof louvers to rotate on their pins. The motor automatically stops at its fully extended position, which positions the louvers at 150 degrees, however, it can be stopped using the remote or app at any position in-between, enabling the louvers to be perfectly positioned based on the angle of the sun to provide sun or shade under the pergola.

Without doubt the feature of our garden

When designing our garden we appreciated that the UK isn’t something we can reply on. We wanted somewhere we could enjoy in the sun, but relax in the rain. Previously it was a no-go zone

We had this installed earlier in the summer outside our southwest facing bifold doors. It has transformed our kitchen. Previously it was a no-go zone on hot summer days. Now it is cool and shady when it’s hot and we can open up the roof when it is overcast so we still get the light. A much more environmentally friendly solution than an air con system.
