We recently conducted a study exploring the top reasons Brits spend time outdoors in the summer and discovered enjoying the feeling of sunshine and fresh air (66%) was the most popular response.
Our research also found that almost a quarter (23%) of homeowners admitted to spending a lot of time in their garden each day of the week and doing so has an incredible impact on their wellbeing.
In fact, when asked to share why they spend more time outdoors in the summer, almost half (47%) admitted it makes them feel more relaxed, whereas 42% confessed to feeling happier from being outside in the fresh air.
Our MD, Stuart Dantzic, said: “With longer and warmer days, it’s not surprising to see most homeowners, with a garden, maximise this space and spend as much time as possible outdoors in the summer.

Most common garden activities
Further investigation uncovered the activities homeowners do most often when spending time outdoors and found relaxing with a good book (43%) or sunbathing in the sun (35%) were the second and third most popular, after general garden maintenance and upkeep (46%).
Al fresco dining was another common activity, with 29% enjoying barbecues with friends and family and 28% highlighting they eat outside most evenings during the summer.
