In this particular application the client initially was looking for external roller blinds to prevent overheating to their living space, through the bi-fold doors on the rear and side elevation of their new build property in Gloucester, however, after a consultation with our shading expert, the client, who previously had thought about awnings but had been put off by their typical dated appearance and limited options (colourways), went with our shading experts advice and opted for our premium modern Cuba awning to provide the required solar shading to their glazing, which would still allow them to open their outward opening bi-fold doors and keep a clear view across their landscaped garden, whilst blocking unwanted solar heat gain and glare, along with as an additional benefit providing shade and shelter to the extensive terrace space.
The Cuba awning features, unlike other awnings, a streamline flush fitting cassette casing with clean square lines and is finished in a choice of over 200 RAL colours as standard. In this instance the client opted for an oyster-white colour, in a fine textured finish so the awning blended perfectly with the light rendered façade, appearing almost an integral part of the property and being unobtrusive when retracted (see below photo). Furthermore a full length fixing plate as standard, concealed behind the awning casing ensures a safe attachment to the lightweight thermalite blockwork of the property spreading the fixing load and forces created by the awning across the full 5.5m length.
