How our motorised sensor controlled blinds work
Automated blinds have grown significantly in popularity over the past few years as temperatures continue to rise and simply refer to a blind(s) that is not only motorised, fitted with a tubular motor and operated by remote control but also linked into relevant sensors that based on the ambient conditions automatically position the blind for maximum effectiveness.
The most common sensor type configured with our blinds is a dual light/heat and wind sensor. This automatically extends a blind when a set light level is reached (typically 20,000 lux), but also retracts the blind if strong winds pose a danger or if the light level falls below the threshold. Built-in delay times for light and wind levels prevent the blind opening and closing repeatedly in a short space of time.
Smart and automated blinds are particularly important when a property is unoccupied, as they ensure when temperatures rise, the blind automatically extends to prevent excessive solar heat gain, ensuring when you arrive back, the property is at a cool and comfortable temperature.
For additional ‘automatic’ functionality, a smart hub can be plugged into the broadband, which allows the blinds to operate from an app on any smart device including iPhones, with features including scheduling, automatically extending/retracting blinds at pre-determined times of each day and allowing blinds to be operated from anywhere in the country or world. Furthermore, the smart hub allows seamlessly linking in with popular smart home devices such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
Sensors can be included as part of the initial installation or added at a later stage as needed. Other sensors include rain sensors, that automatically retract blinds during wet weather.
All automated blinds from Caribbean Blinds feature the latest technology including motors, controls and sensors from industry leaders Somfy, ensuring a smooth, effortless functioning.
