Now there’s less than one month to go until we’ll be exhibiting at Ecobuild, why not draw some design inspiration from the story of this magnificent Putney Passivhaus?
Having demolished the previous dwelling with the goal to create a fully sustainable home from scratch, architect Trevor and his wife Steffi successfully completed their Passivhaus project in 2013. Their impressive abode is a textbook example of what can be achieved when great design is combined with an eco-conscious approach to everyday living- and the result is nothing short of stunning.
The house includes many high-tech features, such as underfloor heating throughout along with an integrated sound system. When it comes to energy conservation, the couple have installed an air-source heat pump to keep the temperature consistent as well as 27 argon-filled double-glazed windows to minimize heat exchange. Meanwhile rainwater recycling, a ventilation system, a ‘green’ roof and closable external window louvres expand the property’s green credentials.
As you can see, the interiors of the five-bedroom house are consistently bright and contemporary, with a modern white and grey open-plan kitchen to utilise the natural light. With two separate rooms at the house, the ground floor is semi open-plan, leading out onto to a landscaped garden which was carefully designed by Trevor.
Boasting a wraparound roof terrace, the property even includes a spectacular private panoramic view of The Shard and Canary Wharf.
Trevor explains, ‘there’s a logic to architecture. You must organise things so they are kind to the eye, so they flow, so you don’t have to scrutinise them.’ And we’d certainly agree that this home, with Passivhaus principles at the very heart of its design, is exceptionally aesthetically pleasing whilst encapsulating all the comforts of a modern family home.
If you’ve been inspired by this article and would like to know more about energy-efficient buildings, come along to Ecobuild where we will be exhibiting from 8th-10th of March.
