It’s virtually a month since we exhibited at Grand Designs Live in London and what a busy month it has been, not only was it the tenth anniversary of Grand Designs it was for us the biggest and best show yet, with show orders and enquiry volumes at an all time high.
Behind the scenes a lot of work goes into the show designing, producing and building a stand worthy of showcasing our fantastic range of premium exterior solar shading products and that will capture the imagination of the 100,000 + visitors who walk through the doors, enticing them to come onto our stand to explore our products and the benefits they will bring.
What no one knows (or may even believe) is the palaver we had to endure the eve before the show opened when it was discovered that two of our wall mounted transmitters that work our products had been physically torn off our stand, something we’ve never experienced at any exhibition we’ve attended before. Fortunately CCTV footage captured this event taking place and to our absolute amazement it showed the Managing Director – Tony Holman – from a competitor company – Crown Outdoors – that claim on their website they ‘pride itself on its integrity and values’ stealing these controls.
Not only is it a sad case when your competition feels the need to stoop so low as to trying to prevent you from operating and displaying your products but when it is the Managing Director of the company, one can only question the entire companies complete lack of ethics from management down, if this is the example being set by the MD.
This act of theft with a view to sabotaging our product display at the show clearly demonstrates that our competitor knew they had an inferior offering in every respect and this was the only move they thought would help them to generate enquiries and sales. Whilst it of course failed with the MD being ejected from the show and the company barred from exhibiting again, it does demonstrate the type of industry we are in and the lack of ethics in some companies. Furthermore the company in question is a member of the BBSA (British Blind & Shutter Association) and is in breach of section 1 (Standard of Service) of their code of practice that all members must abide by so faces sanction by the association with expulsion the most likely result as they have brought the assocation into disrepute.
